Roof of the World: Mountain Magic on a Nepalese Holiday

by Jan 31, 2022

The physically fittest can embark on fully-assisted treks through ancient pine forests, past yak herders, and tiny villages. Exhilarating views of Himalayan peaks and high-altitude lakes are just a few of the benefits of trekking through this country. Warming thukpa, the local hot noodle soup, and meat-filled momos are supremely comforting in the cold mountain air. A soothing Bhutanese dotsho, or hot-stone bath, is also recommended.

Your Nepal holiday is amplified when you take a mountain flight where everyone gets a window seat. Snow glistens on Mount Everest, and rocky cliffs and vast snowfields are almost too close to touch.

Safaris take you to the other end of the country to see the endangered one-horned Asiatic Chitwan National Park, located in the dense riverine forests of the Terai region, which is home to rhinos and other wildlife.

Nepal is known for its mountains, breathtaking vistas, and Himalayan cultures. It is a world-class trekking destination, but those who do not want a strenuous hike can do short 2-3 day trips or one-day hikes into the mountains.

Picturesque Pokhara, situated on the banks of Phewa Lake, is a popular starting point for walks and treks. As the sun rises over the mountains from the Sarangkot viewpoint, you’ll be glad you got up early to see it. Aside from walking, visitors enjoy kayaking or boating on the lake. And the sky above Pokhara is frequently dotted with paragliders gliding through the cool mountain air, taking in top-down views of the valley.

Kathmandu’s streets and markets are as crowded as Hindu and Buddhist temples. An earthquake in 2015 severely damaged UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur, and restoration work is still ongoing.

Stop by the quaint Newari village of Bandipur en route to Pokhara to glimpse Nepali village life. Visit the high-altitude Sherpa village of Namche Bazaar in the Everest region for a unique experience. Sherpas in Nepal are well-known for their mountaineering and guiding abilities. Vibes group destination guides, as dependable as they are, will gladly act as your sherpa, ensuring you get an exceptional itinerary perfectly tailored to your needs.
