When the Magic Happens: Best Time to Visit
For an unforgettable Africa Safari Vibes experience, you’ll often find that planning your trip during the dry season is ideal. Typically running from May to October in many top East and Southern African spots, this time of year provides fantastic chances for wildlife viewing. During this time, the lack of foliage makes it easier to find animals because they congregate near water sources. You will also have more comfortable temperatures and fewer insects.
The wet season, which normally lasts from November to April or May, provides a magnificent contrast, transforming the African plains into a colorful, verdant Eden. Although the lush vegetation and plentiful water make viewing large creatures more challenging, birding is at its peak. Migratory birds arrive in droves, while local birds display breeding plumage. This time of year, is also commonly associated with the birth of new young in the animal realm, bringing unique and tender wildlife experiences.
Want to see something amazing? Try to plan your Great Migration safari Packages when the Great Migration happens. The exact time depends on the rain, but major river crossings with thousands of wildebeest and zebras in locations like the Serengeti and Masai Mara typically occur between June and October. Watching these animals bravely cross crocodile-infested rivers is an unforgettable experience for many safari visitors. If you time your trip around these changes in the seasons and big events like this, your Africa safari will be even more awesome.
Planning Your Safari: Times to Consider Carefully

Be aware that certain times of the year in Africa can bring challenges that might detract from your ideal safari experience, depending on the region.
In East Africa (like Kenya and Tanzania), April and May are usually super rainy.
- Heavy rain can generate muddy roads and make it difficult to travel.
- Animals tend to spread out due to the abundance of water, making them harder to locate. Furthermore, all of the plants become thicker, as if they are hiding!
- Some of the places you can stay may close due to the weather.
If you go on safari in East Africa around April or May, be prepared for a very wet trip that may make it difficult to spot animals and get around.
December to March are often wet months in Southern Africa (including South Africa and Botswana).
- The weather is hot and humid, with frequent afternoon rains.
- The lush greenery might make it difficult to identify animals due to the abundance of leaves and bushes.
- There can be lots of mosquitoes and other bugs because of all the wetness.
- Sometimes, the rain makes the roads bad, so it’s tough to get to some of the more out-of-the-way places.
If you go on safari in Southern Africa between December and March, be prepared for hot, rainy weather, lots of bugs, and it might be harder to see wildlife and travel around.
Accommodation:
- Booking your safari accommodation is not the same as choosing a city hotel. Unlike city hotels with established rates, lodges and campers surrounding the national parks do not have a consistent system, and costs might vary greatly depending on location.
- People’s definitions of a fantastic stay vary. To assist you in choosing a hotel that matches your needs, we recommend looking at photographs and reading reviews from previous visitors on websites such as TripAdvisor. This will give you a general idea of what to expect.
- We carefully choose lodges in each region and pricing range to provide the best balance of quality and value for your safari experience. We also use our own internal system to categories these accommodations.
- Due to the sometimes-limited number of hotels available in specific price categories or locations close to the national parks, the standard of accommodation and service you experience might vary throughout your journey.
Your safari, your Style of Stay: Choose from a spectrum of accommodations, ranging from basic campsites for an immersive natural experience to luxurious lodges boasting breathtaking vistas. Each option provides a distinct flavor for your Great Migration safari Packages adventure.
Changing Hotels: Once you pick a hotel, it’s usually hard to change it during your trip. If you want to switch, it will cost extra because the first hotel won’t give a refund. Sometimes, especially in remote areas, changing hotels at the last minute might not even be possible, even if you’re willing to pay more.
Hotel Service Issues: If you have any problems with the hotel service (like bugs, slow service, bad food, or no water/hot water), please tell the camp manager and let our operations manager or sales team know right away. We’ll try to talk to the hotel’s senior staff to fix things quickly so the rest of your stay is better. You can find our team’s contact info in your booking voucher.
Room Type Changes: The room type you booked (like double, twin, family room) is what’s usually confirmed. If you want to change it when you’re already on the tour, it might not be possible because the hotel might not have the room you need available. Also, changing room types can sometimes change the price.
Electricity, Internet, Hot Water: In many parks, electricity might only be available at certain times (like evenings and mornings). Wi-Fi might not exist or might only be in common areas, and phone signal could be weak or non-existent. Hot water might also only be available for a few hours in the morning and evening. If you need electricity or Wi-Fi all the time, let us know beforehand so we can suggest hotels that offer this.
Air Conditioning/Fans: Most hotels and campsites inside the park don’t have air conditioning, fans, or hair dryers. Even some fancy ones don’t have AC. Sometimes they can provide a fan if you ask. But since it usually cools down at night, most people don’t find this to be a problem.
Drinking Water/Drinks: We give you 2 liters of drinking water per person each day, and hotels usually provide about 1 liter per night. You can buy more water at the hotel restaurant, but it will cost extra. Most hotels include all three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Some luxury hotels are “all-inclusive,” meaning they also include unlimited soft drinks and some alcoholic drinks. Your booking voucher will specify what’s included at each hotel.
Meals During Safari: Your safari includes meals provided by the hotels where you’ll be staying. You can generally expect hot breakfasts and dinners to be served at the hotel restaurant, as a buffet with various choices, allowing you to order from a menu. For game drives, lunch is usually packed with convenient items such as sandwiches, chicken, eggs and juice. If you’d like a hot lunch at the hotel or a customized packed lunch (e.g., rice and curry), please inform us in advance, and we’ll try our best to arrange it, keeping in mind it might not always be possible.
Food Requirements/Restrictions: Please inform us of any food preferences, allergies, or dietary restrictions you may have before your trip. We will communicate this information to the hotels and provide reminders before your arrival. However, please note that we rely on the hotels to adhere to these requests and cannot personally verify their food preparation. If a hotel does not meet your requirements, please inform us immediately so we can discuss it with their management about future meals. We also suggest checking online reviews (like on TripAdvisor) about the hotel’s food to ensure it meets your expectations before booking.
Lunch on Arrival/Departure Days: Our standard tours include three meals a day, starting with lunch on the first day until lunch on the last day while you’re on safari. Since the hotels are booked on a full-board basis (three meals per night), one lunch (either on the first or last day, depending on your trip plan) is usually not provided by the safari parks. We will arrange this as a packed lunch or a hot lunch from where your tour starts or at a restaurant along the way, depending on your itinerary.
Safari Vehicles: For excellent wildlife viewing our safari vehicles feature pop-up roofs and large sliding windows. These are the vehicles used for all your game drives and transfers between parks. While they are not open-sided by default, we can explore the possibility of hiring open-sided vehicles in some parks, such as the Masai Mara at an extra cost. This arrangement needs to be made when you book your tour.
No AC in Vehicles: you’ll experience the fresh air in our safari vehicles as they don’t have AC. During game drives, the roof and windows will be open. We’ll also open windows during other drives. Keep in mind that on some routes to the parks, closing the windows might be necessary, leading to some dust and heat for a short period.
Problems with Vehicle or Guide:

Our guides are carefully chosen because they have a lot of experience. We also take good care of our safari vehicles and check them often. If you have any problems with your guide or the vehicle, please tell our operations manager or sales team before the end of your first day. We’ll investigate it and do our best to get you a new guide or vehicle quickly.
Vehicle Breakdowns:
Safari trips can be rough on vehicles, so sometimes they might get stuck or stop working. We keep our vehicles in good shape, and our guides know how to fix most problems. If your vehicle stops and isn’t moving after about 10 minutes, please call our operations manager. If it’s a big problem and can’t be fixed fast, we’ll send another vehicle to you within 1 to 2 hours.
Itinerary Issues:
We create trip plans based on what we’ve learned works well, but everyone likes to travel differently. Some of you might want to relax and explore a few places, while others want to see as many parks as possible. Some prefer shorter drives, and others don’t mind longer drives to see the most famous spots. So, please look at the trip plan we give you and tell us if you’d like to change anything before you book.
