Best places to go to high tea in Sri Lanka - World Holiday Vibes Blog
SHARE

Imagine yourself standing beneath a sky that is a combination of vivid blue and white while closing your eyes. Colourful billboards and banners surround you, and you can hear a server calling people to check the menu. Your senses are delighted by the smells of melting ice cream, steaming cinnamon tea, and freshly made buns and pastries from a local cafe. With the wide variety of cuisines and tastes available, you are unsure about where to go for breakfast or get food as you stare at the chocolate syrup fountain outside another store.

It’s similar to being confused and unsure of where to start. Have you ever struggled to choose what to eat? When I get a craving but am unsure of what I want, I feel like that. I occasionally go to high tea when this happens. Especially when I’m unsure of what to eat, high tea is something I always look forward to. I view high tea as an encounter that entails tasting various flavours, spices, pastries, and textures. Your taste buds will be left with a lovely sensation after going up and down through various aromas and sensations on this sensory adventure.

Especially when I go on holidays, the holiday wouldn’t be complete without indulging in a local high tea! Because as I said, a high tea satisfies all at once because here you will have everything for a perfect evening with a beautiful feel of yourself!

Since I have been to different high teas’ in Sri Lanka, I will list my favourites among them. When you feel the same, just dine in; you will realise that it is worth a visit!

Arie Lagoon

The all-day eating Banana Prawn restaurant at the Arie Lagoon Luxury Resort, located in the village of Thalahena on the western coast of Negombo, allows guests to have high tea and even offers an option to opt for a table outside on their lush grass and enjoy a breathtaking view of the lagoon. Arie Lagoon serves high tea from 3 pm to 6 pm. A sunny day would allow you to spot many sea birds in the lagoon. The highlight drink is the “Arie Mule,” which combines passionfruit, ginger, lime, and beeswax and is topped with non-alcoholic ginger beer. This is their famous welcome drink and is my favourite among all juices. The platter included sweet and savoury items; Avocado and Sundried Tomato Bruschetta and Scones with jam and cream are my top picks from the platter.

Mitsis Delicacies

The lovely Mitsis Delicacies is well-known for serving delicious Balkan cuisine and is regarded as the home of exquisite sweets. Served on a 3-tier platter with a collection of six savoury items and two delicacies, you can choose any two hot or cold drinks from their beverage menu as you wish! What I love most about this place is the chicken burger that features a juicy, meaty patty similar to a cutlet, and all of their savoury items are prepared in-house. The high tea service is available from 2 pm to 7 pm, but upon request, they can arrange it at any time that suits you.

Dottie’s English Tea Room

If you want to have genuine and traditional English high tea, Dottie’s English Tea Room is the best option. Everything in the tea room is highly classic, real, and decorated with old English items, including the teapot and lovely cloth with vintage rose motifs. It is intended to appear and feel like a typical England atmosphere. They provide a three-tiered English afternoon tea arrangement that includes mouthwatering sandwiches with fillings including cucumber and cream cheese, chicken coronation, and tuna mayo with green chilli. The chicken sandwich was my favourite. They also provide delicious sweet delicacies, including scones with cream and jam, double chocolate brownies, and lemon drizzle cake. I had a wonderful time in every way during my visit!

Cinnamon Red

To enjoy your high tea while sinking in Colombo’s breathtaking skyline, visit Cinnamon Red’s Cloud Red restaurant on the 26th floor. The platter is in 3 tiers consisting of six savoury items and six sweet items and comes with unlimited tea/coffee, faluda, and iced tea/coffee as drinks to drain the delicious meal. I loved most of their savoury items, and they come in a variety of prawns, poultry, salmon, fish, and eggs. The high tea is available only on Sundays from 3 pm to 5 pm at their rooftop bar Cloud Red.

Mount Lavinia Hotel

The only High Tea Experience I’ve had by the water in Colombo was at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. Their three-tiered plate is available from 3 to 6 pm. There are 2 Scones per person, six savoury dishes, and six sweet items. The beverage options include tea, coffee, or iced coffee. My top picks are the Crispy Coconut Prawns from savoury and the “Classic Eclair” and “Opera Cake” from the sweet platter. I recommend this place to anyone who wants peace of mind while enjoying their high tea experience.

Relish the sweet and savoury, and satisfy your buds of taste. Soak in the ambience while you sip your beverages until these become your extra-special memories!

Ahoy matey! I am Aakifa Kellen, a Vibes Group UK content writer. I view travelling as a carbon copy of a lovely picture. Adding colours is all one has to do. Deciding the colours and where to colour them is the painter's choice. My imagination of travel is a wall of pictures with fairy lights and twinkles in between that lights up life when I add new colours to the wall. Fascinating, isn't it? That is why I write about travel blogs. Writing about them makes me share my interest with you and let you know the top travel destinations you can tenderly be around the world. I connect via time spent travelling and making memorable moments!
